Text: Isaiah 60:1-4

“Arise, shine: for thy light is come, and the glory of the lord is risen upon you”.

There are major actions that must be taken to fully activate the package God has in store for you.

  • Arise: You have to get up. The word arise shows that the previous position was a relaxed one. The blessings of God don’t just fall on you like that, you have to take an action to get the blessed reaction.
  • Shine: When you’re awake to the things of the Spirit, you begin to express the radiating glory of the Almighty as Moses did on Mount Sinai in Exodus 34:29-35. That’s why in Matthew chapter 5, Jesus said: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven”.
  • Light: John 1:5 says “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”. Shine and light are two synonymous words as it is impossible to shine if you’re void of light. This brings us to this question, what is our light? Very simple. Your light is the word of the God spoken to you. The bible says in the book of Palms 119 vs 105:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”.
  • The glory of the Lord: This phrase is commonly used to generalize the magnificence and beauty of the image of God. From our text, we see that once we are alert and on the move, the ever magnificent presence of God envelopes us. So if we were to now say this with the new revelation God has given us today, we can say this is what Isaiah 60 vs 1 is telling us:
Wake/Get up and be sensitive to the things of the spirit: my word is available to guide you and my presence will never leave you.

There’s a popular saying that “a child of God is also a god here on earth” as he has been given authority over everything in Genesis 1:28. Children are expected to exhibit traits of their parents, so if we claim to be of God, we certainly have to express our inherent abilities. If God be light (John 8:12), so are we (Matthew 5:14-16). What’s keeping you from shinning? Are you ready to get up and fulfil your God-given assignment? It is time to “Arise, shine: for thy light is come, and the glory of the lord is risen upon you”.
