Deliverance is being set free from spiritual bondages and barriers that hold us back from walking in the victory that Jesus won on the cross for us at Calvary. Put more bluntly, it is the driving out of evil spirits by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is an essential process, probably all Christians need, to ensure they can be totally set free. One of the many benefits of being a Christian is that only Christians filled with the Holy Spirit can be permanently delivered! If you are not a Holy Spirit-filled Christian and a deliverence is performed, then you do not have the protection and guidance from the Holy Spirit to stop any demonic influence from returning and interferring in your life which could make things worse. (Matthew 12:43-45).

The entire premise of deliverance is based on the existence of a situation where one must be delivered from. ‘Deliverance’ is a term used in close association with the word ‘bondage’, just as the word ‘solution’ cannot exist without a premise; ‘problem’. So to talk about the Holy Spirit and deliverance one must begin by highlighting the bondage that mankind had need to be delivered from

THE BONDAGE

Man was held captive by Sin; a nature of rebellion towards God, for centuries it had been impossible for man to please God, because the thoughts of his heart were continually evil and quite selfish too.

Adam and Eve were tempted to sin by the serpent and fell for it out of ignorance, rebellion became a part of their being in that one act and so they passed a dead spirit and sinful nature on to the generations to follow – Romans 3:23. It deserves mentioning that Cain was not tempted by any external party but conceived jealousy and hate in his own heart, a consequence of his inherited nature. This shows that every man born of a woman was born spiritually dead and alive to fleshly lust – Romans 8:8. Adam and Eve tampered with God’s factory settings and every man after them inherited a faulty operating system – Romans 5:12.

Despite what many people think, deliverance is not all about the demons, It is therefore wrong to assume, that once you give your life to Jesus Christ, you are automatically free from demonic strongholds (See; Who Is The Holy Spirit). It is about being set free in Jesus’ name. When deliverance is ministered properly, Jesus is glorified and our lives are changed for the better.

WHO IS THE HOLY-SPIRIT

The Holy-Spirit is God, the third person of the trinity (Father, Son being the other two). Every one of God’s attributes can be attributed to him. He is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. His difference from the other two of the trinity is in his area of operation. It bears mentioning that the Holy-Spirit has been present before Jesus came to Earth, he just wasn’t dwelling inside of man. He is the Spirit of God in direct terms. (Gen 1: 1&2)

The Holy-Spirit is why we are Christians. The disciples had their respective challenges and even after attending the best Bible school in the world (Jesus’ of course), still had challenges living as they should (Evident in Peter’s denial, Judas’ betrayal, Thomas’ doubt). However after they had been filled with the Holy Spirit, only then were they able to be capable ambassadors for Christ (Christians). (Read Acts to see)

HOW DOES HE DELIVER US FROM BONDAGE?

The first bondage we’ll discuss is one experienced by all of humanity; the bondage of sin. The Holy-Spirit convicts us of our sins and leads us to conversion through faith and confessing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour – John 6:44. Now let us make the line between condemnation and conviction less blurry. Condemnation is the voice of the devil, while conviction is the voice of God. Condemnation makes you feel hopeless and done for(This is why we get depressed after we or others condemn our actions -Depression is of the Devil, beware), conviction shows you the path to redemption and possibility of salvation(2 Cor. 7:10). This was the difference between Peter and Judas, both felt guilty but their reaction to guilt shows that the inspiration behind their action was different. Where Peter felt conviction, and repented and went on to be an amazing ambassador for the kingdom, whereas, Judas was condemned and thus committed suicide and was never remembered for anything good again.

The Holy spirit is powerful to deliver, the devil on the other hand is not powerful to hold captive, he is only cunning to do so.

In Acts 10:38, God had to anoint Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, which enabled him to heal all those oppressed of the devil.

The Devil is very organised, in his army, he has principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, & wickedness in high places. If all these fails, he uses his back up, those subtle & “little” sins that no one knows about, except us, all in a bid to stain and to claim us. May God Deliver us.

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but are mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; What are these strong holds?? -They are the enemies within, Paul said, i find myself doing what I don’t want to do; Those habits that we most often condemn ourselves for doing are the strong holds of the devil in our lives. The very moment we are comfortable doing those things that we know are bad, then that demonic stronghold is now a household. Woe betides us when we now begin to convince ourselves that there is nothing bad afterall in indulging in those acts, because this is the early stage of perdition. In Jesus Name God will pull those holds down.

It is very important that we identify our internal enemies. As a matter of fact, they are more potent than the external enemies. The !oment the adversary discovers our weakness(es), he will keep hitting us at that particular spot. For example, the enemy will keep on sending amorous ladies or playboys to us if he discovers our weakness to be sexual immorality. This enemy (The internal enemy) is more powerful than the whole hosts of the philistines. What the Philistines could not do to Samson, the love of women did!. The Holy Ghost will deliver us in Jesus Name.

There is a way that seemeth right, but at the end is destruction, these ways are our ways.

There are many people who are carrying different loads in life. There are weights, burdens and yokes that are delaying many. When an Individual is in bondage, there are limits to what he can achieve. This may mean that there is an urgent need for deliverance. Notwithstanding, we know that the only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ but we must also pass through the devil’s tantrums. Don’t misunderstand it, if we are Christains, and the devil is not after us, no temptations, no trials then something must be wrong. We must be delivered every now & then. We have been delivered today doesn’t mean we won’t need deliverance next week. We are not free until we close our eyes on this earth or when the rapture happens.

When we can’t seem to control our excessive urges, we need deliverance. Infact, until we can boldly affirm John 14:30 about ourselves, we will always need deliverance. Some of us, we can bring down a mansion with a spark of our anger, we need deliverance. In Moses’ 40 years journey with the israelites, he got angry less than 7 times, that is an average of once in 6 years. A man that gets angry once in 6 years has tried hasn’t he? But the devil still used it against him, he knew Moses had anger management, so he kept on hitting him on that spot by using the Israelites to irritate him until he finally struck the Rock of Ages. The devil didn’t use women or money or alcohol- even though all these are giant killers, he trusted his wiles by using anger only. This is what the Bible says we should be weary about, the wiles of the devil. The Holy Ghost will deliver us from ourselves in Jesus name.

As a believer in the church, we know our weakness is money but  we still volunteer to work in the ushering/treasury  department, or procurement team – this is outright foolishness and dining with the devil.

But most Importantly as a believer, if we can’t speak to a person about the Gospel, by any means (verbally, written or by actions & deeds), we also need the deliverance of the Holy Ghost. Acts 1:8 states clearly, in a precise order, for us to be witnesseses, we must have first received power from the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost is more than capable to deliver us, not only to deliver but to also prevent Matt. 22:43-45 from occuring in our case, that is if we are willing to allow him come in and stay forever. But we might not be delivered for following reasons:

* Ignorance; Even though this would not be an excuse on the day of Judgement, most of us are very ignorant. We don’t even know we are in boundage of ourselves, much more external boundages. Perhaps we are surrounded by people who often neglect this issue, or they themselves are unaware of, we attend churches that never convict us of our bad deeds either directly or indirectly. 2 Cor 2:11 implies affirmatively, once we are ignorant, the devil will take full advantage of us.

* Our Secret sin(s); The devil & his agents who were present when we indulged in those evil acts have the records. These are enemies within, that we have refused to openly confess and repent of. (Prov. 28:13)

* When we are unwilling. (Is 30:15): Unlike ignorance, we are aware of the boundage, but because we enjoy the acts, we thus neglect and frustrate every attempt for a deliverance, and probably boycott any deliverance service.

At the end of the day, if Gal 5:19-26 is found in us then we have allowed the adversary to win either we like it or not.

Above All, the most important thing that is noteworthy is that devil isn’t afraid when we go to church. In this generation, he no longer trembles because of this. However, when we just make an ‘attempt’ to live like Christ, he trembles.

We Pray, anything in us that is not of God, In Jesus name, The Holy Ghost shall uproot it.

Thanks For readiing, God bless you.

Post Script: All that we have read is now binding on us, these words would either stand for or against us.
