Who is an ambassador? An ambassador is an official messenger or representative. Apparently, an ambassador of Christ is a messenger or representative of Christ. He is someone who represents Christ, he is likened to a messenger of Christ, one that Christ sends on an errand. All Christians are ambassadors of Christ, we are to represent Christ, and the world must see Christ in us, in our deeds, in our daily conversations, in basically all that we do. We therefore have several duties to perform; let’s look into some of them:

  • The first is to preach the gospel.

Jesus said in Mark 16 vs 15 “Go ye into the world and preach the gospel to every creature”. As Christ’s representative, this is one duty we can’t afford not to do, I mean it’s a command. Christ didn’t say we should try to preach the gospel, he said we should!!

  • The second is to consciously live a life void of sin

Of course, we cannot do it on our own, we need God’s grace but what is your character like? Are you quick to anger? Do the words of your mouth edify? Ephesians 4: 29 says “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers”. How many times do you minister grace unto your hearers? Do you see a neighbor’s clothes on the ground and pass by it saying “after all it’s not mine”. You see we are the bible that most people read, if a man sees your action and says he would rather remain the way he is than accept Christ, then you have failed as an ambassador. We see some things and say it doesn’t matter, but really it does! People look out for our slightest mistake. You say a wrong word or react to a situation you don’t like and you get a response like “and you call yourself a Christian”. So, we really have to be conscious of our attitude.

  • Another thing is to be a representative of Christ in love

In 1 Corinthians 13:2 Paul said if you have all the gifts and have no love, you are nothing. Love gives way to so many things; when you love, you give cheerfully, some people are unrepentantly stingy and it is a bad thing. Someone is in dire need of something and you have it and don’t even need it and you refuse to give. God himself loved us so much, that He gave his only begotten son to die for OUR sins. Christ loved us that He accepted the will of His father, thereby taking all the pain, persecutions, suffering in our stead. If we must represent Christ then we must love.

I could go on and on because there are countless things we must do as Christ’s ambassadors but I will draw the curtain here by saying- when you are faced with any situations, before acting, before thinking, ask yourself what would Christ do, if it was Him?
